Introduction

The Open Museum has been going for 20 years now so some of you will know us and have worked with us and we are glad to see you again! For anyone that we have not yet had the pleasure of meeting, thanks for joining in and please introduce yourself.

This blog was originally set up for our OUT THERE event, held on the 13th and 14th of September 2010. It contains presentations and discussions from the two days to allow those who could not be there to participate in the ideas exchange.

This event brought together museum professionals, artists, community learning and health professionals; all with a shared interest in supporting cultural participation. Most of us will agree that our best ideas have been inspired by experience and collaboration with others, not sitting in an office. This was chance to celebrate the practice that we want to develop and admit to the things that didn’t work.

This blog is the place  to share ideas and inspiration. We plan to use it as a space to share updates on our work, invite guest posts from our partners, participants and contemporaries and promote discussion about how to improve the museum and gallery sector. This is an ongoing ideas exchange, we look forward to hearing your thoughts.
